Volleyball State Champs!
Congratulations to the girls' volleyball team on a dominate performance at the MACS state tournament! With 3-0 wins on Friday and Saturday, the girls advanced to the New England Regional Championship (more on the schedule here).
The girls finished first in the regular season and defended their position well. Several girls made the First and Second All-Conference Teams and Taylor Gordon earned the tournament MVP. The girls have won States for three straight years.
The boys' soccer team also made the weekend very interesting. With a second place finish, they played above their season's performance. Coming into the tournament in third place, many knew that it was going to be a close tournament. The boys had lost close games to both NEBA and Grace and they were behind both of them in the standings. In a very exciting game between 2nd and 3rd, OBA beat Grace to advance to the championship (1-0).
Saturday's game was one that we will remember for a long time. Tied 1-1 at half time, everyone knew it was going to be a good one. When NEBA scored two quick goals in the second half, OBA didn't give up. With a control of the game that they had showed all tournament, OBA scored three beautiful goals to take the lead 4-3. In the last minutes of the game, while OBA tried to hang on for the win, the defense was called for a penalty in the box and NEBA tied the game on a penalty shot and put the game into overtime.
Overtime was a thriller. OBA had several chanced to end it, but in the second OT, the defense was again called for a penalty and NEBA scored on a direct kick from about 20 yards out to end it. Congratulations to the OBA boys for an extremely hard fought tournament!
